Education

Dr. Swygert obtained her Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia in May 2006.

She also has a Master's of Education in Educational Psychology from Wichita State University and a second Master's of Education in Early Childhood and Special Education from Auburn University, Montgomery. Her B.A. degree is in Criminal Justice.  She obtained that from California State University, Sacramento. 

In addition to her academic degrees, Dr. Swygert has completed 30 graduate hours towards a Master's of Arts degree in Counseling (North Dakota State University) and 45 graduate hours towards an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology (Wichita State University).

Dr. Swygert has certifications in Leadership, Early Childhood, and Special Education.  She has educational endorsements in Reading, Math, Gifted Education, Teacher Support Specialist-Coaching, and Instructional Coaching.



Experience

Dr. Swygert began her career in education in 1998 as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher at Linwood Elementary when it was a Department of Defense Dependent School for Robins AFB.  She taught students with several exceptionalities that were in grades K - 2.  She held that position for 3 years.

In 2001, Linwood Elementary closed as a school for military dependents. After the school closed, Dr. Swygert was employed at Russell and Shirley Hills Elementary schools as the Reading EIP teacher for 4th and 5th graders.  She held that position for 1 year.

In August 2002, Dr. Swygert was hired to be the Instructional Coordinator at Parkwood Elementary.  Recognizing the many long hours required of school administrators, Dr. Swygert resigned that position so that she could balance her roles as wife, mother, and educator.

Dr. Swygert has been employed at Miller Elementary since August 2004.  She started as a part-time remedial math teacher and the next year became the full-time Math EIP teacher. In July 2014, Dr. Swygert was hired to be Miller Elementary's first Instructional Coach.  Her primary task is to support classroom teachers with instructional concerns. After holding that position for two years. In August 2016, Dr. Swygert returned to her position as Miller's Math EIP teacher. 

 



Bio

Dr. Swygert is a native of Yorktown, Va.  As a military spouse, Dr. Swygert has lived in Minot, North Dakota;Warner Robins, GA; Upper Heyford, England;Wichita, KS; and Montgomery, Alabama. She relocated back to Warner Robins in 1997 because her husband was reassigned to Robins AFB.  

Dr. Swygert has been a Houston County Board of Education employee since 2001.  Prior to that she taught Special Education at Linwood Elementary (when it was a Department of Defense Dependent School System). Since coming to Houston County, Dr. Swygert has been a Reading EIP teacher, an Instructional Coordinator, a Math EIP teacher, and the Instructional Coach.  Currently, she has returned to her Math EIP teaching position.

Dr. Swygert has been married since 1978.  She and her husband are the proud parents of three adult children.  

She loves traveling and visiting historic sites throughout the U.S.
